No Fatalities on County Highways Over the Holiday

Authorities arrested a total of 68 suspected drunken drivers over Memorial Day weekend, according to the CHP.

The California Highway Patrol arrested 68 motorists on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in the San Diego area over the Memorial Day weekend, 15 fewer than last year, the state agency reported today.

No fatalities occurred on local roads over the 78-hour period, according to the CHP.

Statewide, traffic accidents claimed 25 lives from 6 p.m. Friday to 11:59 p.m. Monday, three more than in the comparable period in 2011, and 1,305 people were jailed on suspicion of DUI, as compared with 1,367 last year.

In addition to freeways, the CHP's jurisdiction includes all roads in unincorporated areas.

This is a great event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make it a fun and enrichingRead More experience for my family. We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
