Coronado Kids, Sell Your Halloween Candy Back for Cash!

More than 30 dentist offices are taking back candy through Nov. 8. Children will be paid $1 per pound.

Children looking to cash in on their Halloween loot can sell their unopened candy to participating dentists and doctors throughout San Diego County starting Friday.

Children will be paid $1 per pound of candy through Nov. 8, according to program organizer Healthy Kids Choice.

"This program is a perfect fit for the San Diego community," said Cheryl Moder, director of the San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative.

All candy collected over the next week will be packaged up by Operation Gratitude and sent as a "treat for the troops" to servicemen and women deployed overseas.

Last year, more than 6,100 pounds of candy were collected. Organizers said the goal this year is to collect more than 8,000 pounds.
