Got Old Glasses? Give Them to the Postman Friday

Jeepers creepers, Lions Club wants your old peepers! And the Postal Service is lending a helping hand.

If you have ever wondered what to do with your old, unneeded eyeglasses, wonder no more.

On Friday, letter carriers throughout San Diego County will team up with Lions Clubs International for the 10th Annual Recycle for Sight eyeglass collection.

By leaving your old, unneeded eyeglasses, sunglasses, readers or children’s glasses in a plastic bag at your mailbox, you’ll be helping needy patients around the world who desperately need corrective or protective lenses.

Your donation means many will experience clear vision for the first time.

So take this opportunity to recycle the old glasses you've had tucked away in a drawer for years. Lions Club volunteers will sterilize calibrate and distribute your donation.

If you receive no mail on Friday, your donation will be picked up the next time your carrier has mail to deliver. Over the past nine years, letter carriers have collected more than 100,000 pair of donated glasses.

Recycle for Sight is supported by the U.S. Postal Service, the National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Rural Letter Carriers Association.

San Diego Lions Clubs and the Postal Service say “Thank you.”

This is a great event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make it a fun and enrichingRead More experience for my family. We need to get the word out about this helpful event in Coronado for the future. It was a learning experience for children and adults alike. I feel better now with my daughter riding her bike on the busy streets of Coronado. Thanks again to all of the Police Officers, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and local volunteers.
