A group of trustees of his estate made the decision to close the San Diego restaurant Wednesday.
The eatery bearing the name of the late Chargers star Junior Seau ceased operations Wednesday. Seau died two weeks ago from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest in a spare bedroom of his Oceanside beachfront house. He was laid to rest on Friday, hours before a public memorial drew thousands of mourning fans to Qualcomm Stadium. A group of trustees of his estate made the decision to close Seau's The Restaurant, which opened in 1996. "The trustees made their decision to honor Seau's legacy and preserve the memories of the excitement, fun and warmth that were the hallmarks of the restaurant during the famed linebacker's lifetime," said Bette Hoffman, a trustee, former director of the Junior Seau Foundation and ex-vice president of Seau…

The popular chain had focused on Coronado as its first California outlet to serve beer and wine, but the city protested.
Update, 7:15 p.m. Monday with comments from city officials, Starbucks, police and the state. The city announced the development Monday afternoon, after confirmation from the state, which oversees liquor licenses, and a senior manager for government affairs with the popular coffee chain. The city quoted the Starbucks official, Kim Winston, who said via email that “based on our due diligence process and our respect of the Coronado community, Starbucks took self-selected and proactive actions to pull its application.” The move took place Friday, according to the city. In an email to Patch, a Starbucks …

Over the weekend, the amount paid per gallon rose at a higher rate than it has in nearly three months.
The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose 3 cents over the weekend to $4.337, after increasing 8.6 cents over the past two days. The sharp increases stem from record low gasoline inventories and continued refinery issues, according to Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California. The average price is 11.6 cents more than a week ago, 8.2 cents higher than one month ago and 10.7 cents greater than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. Adrian Burrell leaves the service this year, he plans to go back home and open “Swagwich”—an organic mobile food truck. “I’ve always wanted to have my own business,” he said. “This is something that’s within reach.” Burrell graduated from Archi’s Acres’ six-week Veterans Sustainable Agriculture Training program at an Escondido farm last month. The program teaches active-duty service members and veterans learn organic farming and agriculture business. “If I wanted to, I could go out and start my own hydroponic farm,” the Marine said. But instead he plans to open a business that will use as many products from other VSAT graduates as well.
