My heart breaks when I read these stories. However, we all need to be reminded every day the pain…Read More and suffering of the millions and millions of innocent and defenseless animals who suffer at the hands of humanity. I will never understand for as long as I live how mankind can be so callous and brutal in the way they are able to treat the defenseless and why. Thanks for your letter and reminder to us all.

Jac is correct, to be embarrassed by this action. While your Congress was at work, it also gutted…Read More the pro-active Stock Act. Rendering it worthless, toward the very entity the Stock was designed to rein-in... it passed by an unusually large manner, at further abuse to Americans.

On this issue, I am glad that this Act was passed. It would have affected anyone who travels by…Read More plane and we sure don't need a shortage of air controllers. We need these people to control the air space to keep us all safe.

Please elaborate for me what you did mean then Jac. I would appreciate it.
Seemingly, anyone could…Read More care less about anything. In its context, your point makes no sense.

The whole point of the blog - and Adler's "Paideia Proposal" - is that we need both,…Read More Frank. Not only to get a good job, but to get a proper education, contribute to society, and have a good life. A library card is a great idea. So is a good teacher.

I rode my Triumph - rigged for the dirt - in the desert, up winding roads I would never have…Read More searched out in a car, had a few ladies ride on the back, and got smacked hard by a young actress on her way to an interview for the musical, "Hair" (she blew a red light and interrupted my ride down Sunset Boulevard and almost wrecked my motorcycle riding career). But my motorcycle had nothing at all to do with my sex drives. Well, almost nothing.

Ironically enough, I had to spend a lot of time defending my Miata (a "spiffy little…Read More roadster" and a convertible) from people who called it a "girl car."
(Then I crashed it into a ditch while driving like the teenaged boy I was)

Mitch:
Sticking to the facts would make for a completely different slant to the author's tale.
Jac Flanders April 9, 2013 at 09:32 pm
The statistic came from an article in The Economist, Mitchel. But you may have missed the point:…Read More some of us planned to work a few more years, in order to retire with a bit more wealth. That goal, in fact, is becoming more difficult to achieve. Downsizing has become the norm, making it difficult, if not impossible, for many of us to retire comfortably, period. And, the safety net of Social Security is in danger of disappearing. Mine was a cautionary blog, Mitchell. Employee contributions to their 401(k) was not the most important message.

Fidelity Finds Slight Rise in Employee 401(k) Contributions - By ANN CARRNS
An…Read More analysis from Fidelity Investments shows that the average employee contribution to its 401(k) retirement accounts ticked up in 2011, despite volatile markets and a sluggish economy.
The average employee contribution increased to $5,750, up from $5,680
a year ago — or about 1 percent — as participants on average continued
to save more than 8 percent of their annual salaries, Fidelity said.
Fidelity said the snapshot was based on the company’s roughly 12 million 401(k) participant accounts.
My comment: Seems like a good sample size to obtain a representative average?
GAME ON!
