Navy Squadron Returns Home to Coronado

Nearly 300 sailors return to Naval Air Station North Island after a six-month deployment.

About 275 sailors returned home to Coronado on Monday morning. The sailors are assigned to Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron 5, Security Detachment 3E and Boat Detachment 9B, which just finished a six-month deployment, the Navy said in a press release.

The Naval Air Station North Island on Nov. 8 and headed for the United Arab Emirates, where they would be “responsible for the security and defense of ports in Jebel Ali and Fujairah," the Navy reported in November.

The Navy formed the squadron after the USS Cole bombing in 2000.
