Make-a-Wish Foundation Comes to North Island

The organization gives Emma Nelson, 8, a backyard party complete with new Rapunzel-like playhouse.

Emma Nelson called it the “best day of my life.” It was up there for Jennifer and Christopher Nelson, her mother and father, too.

Emma, a Village Elementary School third grader, returned to her home at North Island Naval Air Station Thursday to find that the Make-a-Wish Foundation had gifted her with a clubhouse fit for a princess – Rapunzel, in this case. Tangled, the recent update to the fairy tale about the woman with the long, long tresses, is Emma's favorite.

A team of local craftsmen, performers and volunteers (including a man who still helped out despite becoming a first-time grandfather Thursday morning) came together to make Emma's wish come true. See their stories in the media box above.
