Learn to Prune Your Roses, Take Pictures Like a Pro

It's a full day for all you Nado natives. Learn about all the things going on around town, and don't miss Captain Dann's lecture at the Coronado Public Library.

1. Let’s raise some money: The annual fundraiser for the and its Art Walk happens tonight at 6 p.m at the community center. The theme for the is “The Wild, Wild West” and it’s open to all. There will be entertainment, , and a silent auction featuring and packages of entertainment and recreation. Contact the Coronado Historical Association at 619-435-7242 or Courtenay McGowen at 619-435-7165 for ticket information.

2. Get pruning: It’s the time of the year to prune back those rose bushes. Don’t know how? Visit the library today at 9:30 a.m. for a pruning workshop and learn the dos and don’ts of pruning. The workshop will be held in the rose garden in front of the library and be led by rosarians Rita Perwich and John Nichols. This workshop is free to all, but if you’d like some hands-on learning, bring your pruning shears and gloves and get pruning!

3. Naval lecture: Captain Dann will give a talk on early this morning at the in the Winn Room. The lecture is in conjunction with the up-coming Centennial of Naval Aviation events and exhibitions taking place in Coronado and San Diego on Feb. 12. This lecture is free to the public and begins at 10:30 a.m.

4. Photo classes: The Dan McGeorge Gallery is offering photo classes for this month. There are classes for beginners that will teach you all of the functions and on your digital camera, classes for compact cameras, and classes for DSLRs for the more advanced photographers. All classes start at 8 a.m. and vary in price. To enroll, email dan-mcgeorge@sbcglobal.net, call the gallery 619-522-9902, or come by to sign up. Mention your Coronado membership and receive a 15 percent discount!

5. Be a yogi: Today is at . Bring the whole family over to the school for some free yoga. The fun starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 12:30 p.m. Bring a mat, towels or blankets to stretch out on, as the activity will take place on the football field at the school. This Saturday family activity is sponsored by the , which also offers adult yoga classes.
