Five Drivers Arrested at DUI Checkpoint
The Saturday-night checkpoint was near the Coronado Bridge toll booth.
Five people were arrested for suspicion of DUI Saturday night at a police checkpoint just west of the Coronado bridge toll booth that was operated by several law enforcement agencies. One of those arrested has a previous DUI conviction, police said.
Out of the 2,200 vehicles that approached the checkpoint, more than 750 were contacted by police, said Lt. Scott Arsenault of the Chula Vista Police Department. Twelve vehicles were impounded because the driver was unlicensed, Arsenault said.
Officers from Coronado, Chula Vista, National City, Southwestern College and San Diego police departments staffed the checkpoint, as well as sheriff’s deputies and probation officers.
The Saturday-night checkpoint was the fourth in a series of multi-agency DUI enforcement operations, and was part of a Repeat DUI Offender Prosecution and Awareness program, according to Chula Vista police. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This is a GREAT idea. They should do this full-time and put another checkpoint coming up the Strand.
