It is my sad duty to inform you that Connor Carvajal passed away today. Connor was a first grade student at Village Elementary School in Eileen Farrell's class. He valiantly battled neuroblastoma cancer for the last three years. He was hospitalized at (Rady Children's Hospital) for the past few weeks and fought valiantly for his life to the end. Connor would have turned 7 years old in July.

Connor is the son of Linda Wagner and the brother of Gage Cooper, a ninth grader at (Coronado High School). Mrs. Wagner felt the tremendous support from the school community and is grateful for the reassurance.

The hearts and prayers of our school community are with Connor and his family. CUSD nurse Joellen Semo is in constant contact with the family and has organized our district response to this tragedy.

Counselors are at VES today talking with students and staff and will be available for further assistance if needed over the next few days.

A friend who helped with the event wrote on an online journal Thursday that Connor “has touched so many individuals. He has blessed each of us with his laughter, smiles and playful personality. Amidst the battle for his life, he remained joyous and happy and loving.”

Our thoughts are with his family, the school and his classmates.
